About my work I describe my art, as Freestyle Mosaics or Folk art. I hand make, paint, cut/smash, and, then place all of the tiles individually, for my mosaics. Each piece is an original. Most of my current pieces have taken anywhere from 25-50 plus hours to create. Ideas for my pieces come from anything that might inspire me; religion, a rug, a person, a phrase, a photograph, a song or something in nature. Once I determine what I am going to do I begin to draw. My drawings are never too detailed, allowing the mosaic materials to influence the final outcome of my work. I also frame most of my art and feel it is an extension of the piece itself. |
